“Oh my God, she’s old,” Caroline thought as she noticed a woman in a store. At sixteen, she couldn’t imagine how anyone could have wrinkles like that. “Lines on her lips from smoking, I’ll never have those!” When she looked into the mirror she saw only her smooth skin and pink lips that would be there into infinity. Time was the furthest thing from finite as the endless days proved.

Lori Vance - Queendom

Lori Vance, Executive Director of “Express Yourself Milwaukee” and psychotherapist with Eastlake Counseling Consulting, is an autumnal queen who has just turned 60. “Express Yourself” is an organization built on the belief that art can be used to build on going relationships with at risk youth with life changing results. Currently, more than 1,100 youth participate annually in the program in the greater Milwaukee area.

What does it means to live life to the fullest according to Lori?

I think what that means to me is constantly realigning with myself in response and reaction to what what my experiences are in the world. It means finding ways to return to myself when I’m off balance, and ways that remind me what’s important. Also, I realign with what I have to offer that’s in harmony with who I am.

LWS - June Issue "My Best Friend Cam"

Cam Plainy always had something snarky to say.

We were in third grade and Girl Scouts. I remember the night our troop visited the local doughnut shop. I was not happy about the doughnut holes on a stick that the owner was giving us. I mumbled something rude. He looked at me, his mouth went curly on the sides. Then he gave me a whole doughnut decorated with colorful frostings. Those girls looked at me weird. I didn’t care, Cam said, “They’re just jealous.” After that, Cam became my best friend.

We had a great time especially in high school!
